 ACTION HIGHLIGHTS

Simon Rosner produced a solid, professional display to beat the higher-ranked Alister Walker in straight games. Striking the ball superbly, crafting intelligent rallis and moving with eaase for such a tall man, Rosner dominated the match to win 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 in 46 minutes.

Alister, we will miss you. And that colourful kit. Definitely a winner all-round.

AMR OOZES CLASS

Amr Shabana and Adrian Grant produced a match of outstanding quality, with the Egyptian maestro winning 11-8, 11-5, 4-11, 11-6 in 59 minutes. Shabana was made to work hard throughout by Grant's intelligent and thoughtful play, but the Egyptian had more winners in his expansive locker. Grant produced an outstanding spell of attacking squash to win the third game but Shabana dominated the fourth to book his placein the quarter-finals.

GOVERNOR DECLARES VIRGINIA SQUASH DAY

The Governor of Virginia Bob McDonnell was welcomed to the Davenport North American Open's glass court by an enthusiastic audience, flanked by Kim Ennis from the Westwood Club and David Hetherington, President of the Virginia Squash Association.

The Governor officially proclaimed Februaary 20 as Virginia Squash Day and said how pleased he was that Richmond hosted such an outstanding annual event that attracted the world's leading players to the Commonwealth capital

He joined spectators in the SkyBox to watch the action as top seed James Willstrop from England took on former world champion Thierry Lincou from France.

The North American Open is one of ten major events that form the PSA (Professional Squash Association) World Series.

The success of the tournament has resulted in a steady increase in participation figures accompanied by the building of new courts throughout Virginia.
